Stuart Orlando Scott, an inspiration to blacks, journalists, sportscasters, and sports fans around the world; died this morning after a long battle with cancer. Scott, known for his catchphrases, "boo-ya" and "cool as the other side of the pillow" battled with cancer 3 times. Moments of silence were held today during football games in memory of Stuart Scott. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Taelor and Sydni; both parents, and 3 siblings. He was dating Kristin Spodobalski. Stuart was 49 years old.
Stuart Scott was born in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated high school in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In 1987, he graduated from the University of North Carolina. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He worked at TV stations in Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina & Florence, South Carolina. In 1993 he went on to work for ESPN. That same year he married his wife Kimberly Scott who, according to court documents, he divorced in 2007 after 14 years of marriage. Despite paying alimony & child support, he continued to fund his daughters' education, activities, and had 529 College education plans for both girls.

Scott has covered events like the Super Bowl and NBA Finals & has interviewed Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama. He was the commencement speaker at UNC in 2001.
