Contrary to popular belief, being pro black does not make a person anti white or anti any other ethnicity/race/nationality. We have the right to celebrate our culture, study our history, and embrace our people. That doesn't make us racist. All different cultures embrace who they are.
Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Nobody else can do this for us." Nobody else can stand up for the injustices of our people like we can. We all have our own different experiences with racism and even colorism within our own people.
When I say I'm pro black, I'm for black unity, uplifting and educating my people. I'm for letting my people know that we don't need others approval to be "good enough." The Europeanized idea of beauty is NOT the only beauty.
We've barely been taught our own history in schools and most of what we have been taught is either untrue or we didn't get the whole story. The media has portrayed us harshly. Even if you look in the thesaurus, the word black means: ugly, dirty, etc.
I'm not interested in just convincing other cultures that we're beautiful, we're human, or that our history began way before slavery. I'm more interested in educating my own people that we're beautiful and deserve to be treated fairly. I want to uncondition your minds and set you free from the mental slavery that would have you think that you are less than anyone else.
So, just because I'm proud to be black and think that black is beautiful and that black lives matter just as much as other races lives does not make me a racist. ✊
