Yesterday, I read something that infuriated me and broke my heart all at the same time. Carolyn Bryant, the woman claiming that Emmett Till whistled at her in August 1955, admitted that she lied about the whole thing. See, I always felt as if she lied. However, knowing she admitted it lets me know just how cruel people can really be. She may not have known the extent of what would happen to the young 14-year-old boy because of her lies, but she knew there would be consequences. Timothy B. Tyson, an author and senior research scholar at Duke University, has a new book, “The Blood of Emmett Till.” The book reveals the testimony of Carolyn Bryant. I read one of his books years ago, “Blood Done Sign My Name” and I’m looking forward to reading this one. The story of Emmett Till has also been heartbreaking to me. My brother-in-law, who is younger than I am, didn’t even know who Emmett Till was until I told him yesterday. Which makes me sad that our children aren’t taught Black History in school. Having a Black son myself, I can’t even begin to imagine the pain Emmett Till’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, felt. I read years ago, that the 2 men responsible for his death had suffered from health issues. Even if young Emmett had of whistled at Carolyn, he did not deserve to be tortured, murdered, tied to a fan blade, and thrown in the Tallahatchie River. His mother was adamant about having an open casket funeral for her son, so the world could see what they’d done. I read once that she said since she lived in Chicago, she never worried about racism. She thought it was a Southern problem. However, she became an advocate for civil rights after her son’s death.

So many people in my life need a healing right now. My sister has hypertension in her eye, my best friend almost died giving birth, my grandfather is in the hospital, and I had a tooth infection. I am terrified of dentists, but I am trusting God that my surgery to remove the tooth that’s bothering me along with my wisdom teeth, will go well. My sister is fearful of losing her eyesight. I just have so much faith that she is already healed. In Donald Lawrence’s song, “There Remaineth a Rest,” he says, “Your healing is complete, be assured, it’s already done.” I’m reminded of Isaiah 53:5 KJV, “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.” Maybe you aren’t in need of a physical healing. Maybe you need mental healing, your land healed, healing of a broken heart. Know that The Most High is still in the healing business, no matter what your need is. You just must pray and trust Him. Have faith!
Today is the day that the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born. It also happens to be my father's birthday. The Most High, God, also performed a miracle today. This is a praise report that I must share. A few days ago my best friend texted me and said she needed to talk, but she was walking into a doctor's appointment. I told her to let me know how it went and call me afterwards. Sometime later, I hadn't heard back and decided to reach out to her. She texted me back and said her blood pressure was high and that she had to be admitted into the hospital. I was very concerned because she was also pregnant. I prayed for her and sent in some prayer requests. She said they had induced her labor and she was under some stress, but her pressure was going down. I had planned to call her that night after I got my own 2 children to bed. However, I have a tooth infection and the pain is literally worse than when I gave birth. So, I'm on an antibiotic and a pain medication that makes me sleepy. So, I quickly sent a text to check on her and got in bed. Just before I dozed off she texted back and said that the doctor's had called a code blue on her earlier and she almost lost her life. I began to pray and then fell asleep. At 1:58 a.m. she texted me, but I didn't hear the phone. However, my son woke up crying and as I soothed him back to sleep, I checked my phone. It was now 2:02 a.m. and it was mean't for me to see. She said they were about to do an emergency C-section on her and she wanted me to pray. I prayed and even texted her a prayer. I was scared for her because one of my cousins died after giving birth to her 1st child, another cousin died giving birth to her 3rd child, and I knew another young woman who had also died giving birth. Though, I had not lost hope. I thought of my friend who's blood pressure had skyrocketed and came out just fine. I told God that I did not want to lose my best friend and I wanted her to experience motherhood. I had faith that by His stripes, she was already healed. I went back to bed and when I awoke the next morning, I hadn't heard from her. I knew she could be busy or tired, but given the circumstances, I was worried. I prayed and sent her a text. I asked Siri on my iPhone to play some gospel music by Donald Lawrence, hoping she'd play the music by him I had already downloaded. Instead, she chose to play some of his popular songs that weren't in my playlist. The very first song she played, I had never heard before. After the song had played for some time, Donald Lawrence pauses and says, "Everything that you'll ever need, has already been taken to Calvary." I was so moved by what he said that I even shed a few tears. I was reminded of just how good my God is. Almost as soon as he said it, I received a text from my best friend. There weren't any words, but there was a picture. A picture can say a thousand words. The picture was of a beautiful baby girl. I shed more tears, tears of joy and thankfulness. I knew my friend was safe, I knew her baby was healthy, and that God had heard my cry.
I'm reminded of the story in the bible of the woman with the issue of blood. She was sick for 12 gruesome years. She went to every doctor and had done all that she could, in search for a healing. When she heard that Christ was coming to town, she had faith that He could heal her. There was a crowd around Him, but the woman pressed her way through. She figured if she could just touch the hem of his garment, she'd be healed. The bible says that when she touched the hem of His garment, instantly she was made whole. (Luke 8:43-48).
Go forth today being grateful for life and knowing that God is a healer!

I probably visit Courtney's blog everyday. She formally worked at Coach and now earns money blogging. She has a very unique style and has helped me form my own new style after having my second child. I first discovered her on Instagram: @ColorMeCourtney. She has me shopping at Macy's & Old Navy. Truth be told Macy's outfits look better on Courtney than on the selected models. You have to check her out!
I first purchased their all purpose cleaner, the pink grapefruit scent, from Home Depot. Their products are natural, non-toxic, and biodegradable. Since then I've purchased their lime+sea salt and French lavender scented all purpose cleaner from Harris Teeter. I've also used their body washes, the surfside scent from Harris Teeter and my favorite, the white tea scent from Publix. They also have candles, air fresheners, hand wash, laundry detergent, and dish soap.
I have used their shampoos, conditioners, and Argan oil. My favorite this week is the coconut miracle oil lotion with vanilla bean extract. It is creamy and keeps my skin super soft and moisturized. It is THE best lotion have used, ever. Pushing Palmer's Cocoa Butter to second place, at least in my book. So, if you have super dry skin I recommend this.
1. Baby Breeza Formula Pro One Step Bottle Maker
Okay this is like the Keurig, but for babies. Why didn't anyone get this for me at my baby shower? My best friend is having a baby and she is due February 2017. She added this item to her Target baby registry. I had to order this for my son. He was breastfed for a few months, but we now use formula for him. FYI I was late to the Keurig party because I didn't start drinking/craving coffee until I got pregnant with my son last year. Anyways, this is a great product!
Hurricane Matthew has come and gone, but it left behind disaster. Numerous North Carolina cities are still dealing with tremendous flooding. Homes are underwater, lives have been lost, and pets left behind. Children have not been able to return to school because of the flooding due to a levee and a dam breaking. There are still many without power and the water may not be safe to drink for another 4 weeks. People are living in shelters, hotels, and even their cars. I live in Wilmington, North Carolina and in my neighborhood there was only minimal flooding and 2 power outages, but the power here has been restored. In spite of people losing their homes and belongings; some hotels, gas stations, and supermarkets have jacked up the prices in the areas that were affected. This is an illegal act that can be reported to the Attorney General. At the very least, those companies may be slapped with a fine. Unfortunately, by then they may have made a mini fortune off of the suffering of others. Cities like mine in North Carolina and across the county, have come together to gather donations for towns like Lumberton, Fayetteville, and Kinston in NC. I was fortunate enough to be able to donate water bottles, baby items, and food to several places in my local area. I wanted to take a moment to recognize some of those that collected donations. Also, thanks to those who donated and to the North Carolina National Guard! While I may not have mentioned everyone, if you are still collecting donations please comment below! Thanks to:
