This is my virtual happiness jar! The happiness jar is much like a gratitude box. It's where I'll add things that I'm grateful for each day, week, month, whenever. "Happiness is a journey, not a destination."
This week I am grateful for the people that God has removed out of my life! Even though their disappearance may have caused feelings of hurt and rejection. Once I took the time to look back over my life, I became grateful. Even sometimes when you miss people, it doesn't mean they were meant to stay in your life forever. They were seasonal people and their season was up. When we grow and change some people aren't ready to grow with you or they aren't going where you're going. Especially when you look at these people later and they haven't done anything positive with their lives.
I read an interesting story about the Seat Pleasant 59. They were a group of 5th graders in 1988 who 2 wealthy businessmen promised college scholarships. The students shared what they wanted to become when they became adults. Later in 2011, journalists interviewed those same people and many had become successful while others did not. The same opportunity was given to each child, but their mentalities are what made or broke them. A lot of them came from broken homes and bad neighborhoods, but some were still successful because their mentality and dreams were bigger than their environment and circumstances.
I'm not only grateful for the people God removed, but for the lessons learned from them and their disappearance. Without God removing them, He couldn't have moved me to become a stronger and better person. My mentality is set to where I know that I deserve better.
This week I'm thankful for God's grace and for life's lessons. I would not be who I am today or as emotionally strong; if it wasn't for the things that I've been through. I'm grateful that God forgives and still hears a sinner's prayer. I am still learning to forgive others and developing an attitude of gratitude. Through it all, I am thankful!
I wanted to start my virtual happiness jar off with my daughter, Journey. There is so much that I'm grateful for in this photo alone. My daughter, this secluded spot on the beach that I accidentally found a few years ago. The amazing photographer who had just moved to my hometown from New York. The sunset that I rarely get to catch. I'm even more grateful for the month that followed this photo, finding out that I was pregnant with my son!
Happiness is a state of mind and I choose to be happy. I'm grateful for the small things that make me smile and bring me joy. Life is definitely better when you're grateful and complain less.
